WikiLeaks Receives $ 2.2 Million Cryptocurrency Donations

Most of all, WikiLeaks was supported by the owners of bitcoin, donating 30.45 BTC ($ 1,517,548), the amount on air was almost 3 times less – 145.45 ETH ($ 587,883).

The international non-profit organization (NOC) WikiLeaks, which posts information from anonymous sources and collected from the leaks of classified data of authorities and business,
received over $ 2.2 million in cryptocurrency donations.

WikiLeaks is supported by donations from individuals or legal entities who believe that all information should be made public. Because WikiLeaks posted government confidential information, many payment platforms blocked transfers to the organization, including Visa, MasterCard and AmEx.

The organization was forced to turn to the only form of money that cannot be censored – cryptocurrency. The WikiLeaks website says the organization accepts donations in various cryptocurrencies. In total, the following were transferred to WikiLeaks wallets:

  • Bitcoin – 30.45 ($ 1,517,548);

  • Ether – 145.45 ($ 587,883);

  • Bitcoin Cash — 225.2 ($102 281);

  • Litecoin – about 163.07 ($ 25,765);

  • ZCash — 84.01 ($13 800).

Curiously, one of the patrons donated 1 NFT from the CryptoKtties collection.

Back in 2017, Julian Assange claimed that in 2010 WikiLeaks made 50,000% of its profits from Bitcoin. Today the media reported that Julian Assange had a stroke in the Belmarsh maximum security prison, where he is being held in custody. In October, the international humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), a philanthropist sent an anonymous air donation of $ 3.5 million from the sale of non-fungible tokens.
