The Wikimedia Foundation, which is behind the world-famous online encyclopedia Wikipedia, will have to enforce a so-called “landing” law in Russia.

Roskomnadzor has already sent a request to the company about the daily attendance of Russian users of Wikipedia. This was reported by the TASS news agency with reference to the press service of the department.
The press service noted:
In accordance with the requirements of the law, on April 22, 2022, Roskomnadzor sent a request to the site administration about the daily attendance of the Wikipedia information resource by Russian users. <...> With more than 500,000 Russian users per day, Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. falls under the law “on landing””.
According to the law adopted on July 1, 2021, from January 1, 2022, foreign IT companies are required to establish a branch or representative office with a Russian legal entity and fulfill a number of other obligations.
Earlier, Roskomnadzor published a list of companies that fall under the law “on landing”, and then “Wikipedia” was not included in this list.
