Apple is in talks with the Indian government to begin production of branded iPad tablets in the country. This was reported by the authoritative edition of Reuters, citing industry sources.

The Indian government is about to launch a massive project to boost local production of tablets, laptops and servers, while encouraging export manufacturers. It is planned to invest $ 964.5 million in the project within 5 years. The launch of the initiative should take place before the end of February.
Among the interested companies, there is also Apple, which, together with other manufacturers, is lobbying for a more significant budget – over $ 2.7 billion. One of the reasons is that India does not yet have sufficient capacity for the scale required by Apple.
Apple has already been making iPhones in India since 2018 to avoid import duties when bringing products into the country as part of the Indian government’s Make in India initiative. In January, there were already messages on the network about the transfer of part of the iPad production from China, but then it was about Vietnam.
