Actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock with a slap in the face during the 2022 Oscars awards ceremony, held on Sunday night (27) in Los Angeles, United States.
While presenting the award for best documentary, Rock made a joke involving the shaved head of Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith’s wife. Jada, who is also an actress, has publicly said that she suffers from alopecia, a disease that leads to hair loss.
After the joke, Will Smith got up from his chair and headed for the stage, when he slapped Rock across the face. the reporter from CNN Stephanie Elam claimed she could hear the slapping noise. Smith also reportedly said twice, “keep my wife’s name out of your mouth.”
The incident created an atmosphere of embarrassment in the theater where the ceremony is being held. It remains to be seen whether Smith’s reaction was also a joke or if it was an actual assault.
