Will Smith’s daughter, Willow announces that she is not coming to Lollapalooza; festival totals 5 cancellations

The American singer Willow, daughter of actor Will Smith, announced, this Wednesday (15), the cancellation of all her shows scheduled for South America and Mexico.

The artist would perform at this year’s edition of Lollapalooza Brasil – which, in this way, reached the mark of five artists whose visits to the festival were canceled: Willow, Blink-182, Omar Apollo, Dominic Fike and 100 Gecs.

A CNN contacted the organization of the event to comment on the cancellation, and awaits a response.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will not be able to perform for my fans in South America and Mexico. Hope to be back very soon,” Willow wrote on Twitter.

Lolla takes place between the 24th and 26th of this month at the Interlagos Circuit, in São Paulo.

Willow would perform on Sunday, the 26th, a date that will have Canadian rapper Drake as the main attraction.

Lollapalooza Brasil announces new attraction for 2023 edition; meet WILLOW

The cancellation of artists has become a constant this year, which will mark the 10th edition of Lollapalooza Brasil.

Blink-182, which would have been one of the main shows of the festival, postponed its unprecedented visit to the country, which already had its 100,000 tickets sold out, after drummer Travis Barker injured his finger.

In addition to the trauma for fans of the pop-punk trio, singer Omar Apollo was the first artist to cancel his presence at Lolla. He gave up coming to South America after being announced as the opening act for singer SZA’s American tour.

Last week, when the organization disclosed the division of stages and the schedules of the shows this year, the cancellations of the shows of the singer Dominic Fike and the duo 100 Gecs were also informed, but the reasons were not informed.

The organization also experienced a scare with the news that Kevin Parker, lead singer of Tame Impala – an Australian band that is one of the main attractions of Lolla 2023 –, announced that he broke his hip.

“All shows in Mexico and South America go as planned, I won’t give up on you guys”reassured fans in an Instagram post.

Who is Willow?

Daughter of the couple of actors Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, WILLOW, and with just turned 22 years old, already has a discography full of five authorial albums mostly well received by international critics.

The musical career has the starting point in 2010, when she, with only 9 years old, sang the hit “Whip My Hair”. Even though it was released more than a decade ago, the song has recently reverberated as a trend in TikTok videos.

Born in 2000, WILLOW is constantly referred to – for example, in the statement when it was released by Lollapalooza Brasil – as a “representative” or “icon” of generation-Z.

After the first hit, there was an artistic maturation until she released her first album, “Ardipithecus”, in 2015. From that point on, she edits two other albums biennially – “The 1st” (2017) and “Willow” (2019) .

In this first moment of her musical career, she wanders through experimental pop, soul and even R&B.

In a recent interview with British magazine Glamor, in September, she said that she “was trained to be an R&B singer, so she went in that direction. But she always had a great affinity for rock music”.

This is clear in her last two releases, “lately I feel EVERYTHING” (2021) and “” (2022), when she proposed to join the movement of artists – such as Machine Gun Kelly and even Olivia Rodrigo – who rescued pop punk references from the first decade of the 2000s.

WILLOW is one of the people most responsible for airing the genre, reinforcing the feeling echoed in the international and Brazilian press that there is a “revival” in emo and pop-punk.

The singer makes her references clear even through her partnerships. Travis Barker, drummer for Blink-182, has several appearances on the 2021 album – including the single (listen below).

“I am so grateful for this song because it was created in a very introspective time (during the first few months of isolation from the pandemic). It was the song that proved to me that I needed to get rid of the insecurities I had about doing a project like this”, said WILLOW about “transparentsoul”. Singer Avril Lavigne has also recorded with WILLOW.

For the first time in Brazil, she will arrive with the tour of her most recent album, “”, released in early October. The disc continues her rock phase, but with greater comfort to walk within the genre, going to hard rock at certain times.
