Carolyn Smithmother of Will Smithwas reunited with her family at her home in the suburbs of Philadelphia on Sunday night (27), excited to watch her son at the Oscars.
In an interview with CNN affiliate WPVI, she said she was very proud of her son’s Oscar win, who won his first statuette for his performance in “King Richard”, and said she was shocked that he slapped Chris Rock.
“Will is a very balanced person,” she said. “This is the first time I’ve seen him lose his composure. First time in your life.”
Will Smith hit Rock after the comedian made a joke about the shaved head of actress Jada Pinkett Smith, his wife.
Ellen, Will’s sister, also spoke to the network and talked about the pressure her brother suffers as a celebrity. “Everyone was bullied or abused in some way,” she said. “I totally understand you.”
Carolyn said her son’s victory on Sunday was the result of the actor’s years of hope and hard work.
“I was waiting and waiting and waiting,” she said.

It was just a joke. Jokes are what Chris Rock does. Always has been edgy. This was a mild joke for him. And i love GI Jane

Comedian Kathy Griffin said it is very bad practice to go on stage and physically assault a comedian. She pointed out that “now we’ll all have to worry about who will be the next Will Smith in comedy houses and theaters,” she tweeted.
Let me tell you something, it’s a very bad practice to walk up on stage and physically assault a Comedian.
Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theaters.— Kathy Griffin (@kathygriffin) March 28, 2022
Actress Sofia Bush condemned Will Smith’s act as well as Chris Rock’s joke. “Aggression is never the answer. But this is the second time Chris has joked about Jada on the Oscars stage. Attacking someone’s autoimmune disease is wrong. Both need a breather,” she wrote.
Violence isn’t ok. Assault is never the answer. Also? This is the 2nd time that Chris has made fun of Jada on the #Oscars stage, & tonight he went after her alopecia. Punching down at someone’s auto-immune disease is wrong. Doing so on purpose is cruel. They both need to breathe.

Singer Nicki Minaj said she loved Chris Rock, and who doesn’t think he would have made that joke had he known what Jada shared recently. But he criticized the action. “Among all the people who work at the Oscars, do you want to say that none of them listened to this woman [Jada] talk about her story, is it heartbreaking? Seriously,” she argued.
I love Chris Rock. I don’t think he would’ve made that joke had he known what Jada recently shared- but between him & the whole team @ the #Oscars you mean to tell me not ONE of y’all heard this woman just share this heartbreaking story? #ComeOnSon … (continue to next tweet)
