Will the queen retire to Balmoral after the death of her beloved Philip?

In 1861, to mourn her beloved husband Alberto died at only 42 years old, the Queen Victoria retired to Balmoral. Elizabeth II, now that it has remained widow of Philip, his “strength,” could do the same. The Daily Mail. According to the British tabloid Queen Elizabeth will be moving to the Scottish estate in end of May and will settle down to Craigowan Lodge, a stone house with seven rooms set apart from the castle where the royal family usually gather in the summer. The sovereign, always according to the Daily Mail, it could be together with Lady Sarah Chatto, the youngest daughter of the princess Margaret, who often took refuge in this mansion with her aunt queen.

Balmoral, the summer residence of the British royal family against the idyllic backdrop of mountains, forests and lakes, it is a very special place for the queen, as it was for her late husband. Here Elizabeth and Philip spent part of their honeymoon in 1947; here the rest of the royals waited every year; here they celebrated, in 1972, the silver wedding (see photo above); here they arrived together, for the last time, last August (after more than four months of lockdown in Windsor). As he unveiled Eugenie of York in the documentary Our Queen at Nienty, Elizabeth II loves Balmoral: «It is the most beautiful place in the world. Grandma is really happy there».

Philip was also in love with Balmoral. In the Scottish residence the prince adored organize barbecue for family and guests. He knows something about it Tony Blair who visited the royals in the summer of 1997 (the same one in which lady Diana). As the former premier said in his memoirs, that time the Duke of Edinburgh prepared the barbecue, while his wife, the Queen, served at the table and washed the dishes. Balmoral witnessed the most private moments, as (almost) any couple, of Elizabeth and Philip. So it would not be surprising if Her Majesty, in order to mourn for her husband, really decided to retire to her beloved Scottish estate.
