William and Kate release photo to mark Charlotte's ninth birthday

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton released a photo of their daughter Charlotte to mark the princess's ninth birthday this Thursday (2).

In the photograph taken in recent days by her mother, Charlotte, the couple's second daughter, was photographed smiling happily in the garden of her home in Windsor.

“Happy 9th birthday, Princess Charlotte!” said a message on the couple's X account. “Thank you for all the kind messages today.”

It has become tradition for Kensington Palace to release photos taken by Kate, an amateur photographer, to celebrate birthdays and other family occasions.

However, a photograph published this year on Mother's Day in the UK in March was removed by a number of news organizations, including Reuters, because it had been edited, something Kate later apologized for.

This occurred shortly before the princess revealed that she was undergoing preventive chemotherapy, after tests carried out following major abdominal surgery she underwent in January revealed the presence of cancer.

Heir to the throne William resumed official duties last month, but Kate will only return to the public spotlight when her medical team says she is well enough to do so.

King Charles returned to public engagements this week for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer in February.
