Willy Monteiro Duarte, asked for a life sentence for the Bianchi brothers

Willy Monteiro Duarte died on the night of 6 September 2020 in Colleferro (Frosinone), beaten to death, after intervening to defend an attacked friend. The trial, which has been underway for months and which should reach a sentence at the end of May, had an important moment yesterday. In a classroom “full, little press, many young people”, as the mayor of Colleferro Pierluigi Sanna said, prosecutors Francesco Brando and Giovanni Taglialatela asked for a life sentence for the brothers Marco and Gabriele Bianchi, and two 24-year sentences for the other defendants, Mario Pincarelli and Francesco Belleggia, accused of complicity in aggravated murder. According to the lawyer Massimiliano Pica, lawyer of the Whites, the request is “excessive” and there are “inconsistencies”.

For the prosecutor of Velletri, on the other hand, it was a “vulgar attack” and “group” not a murder. According to the prosecution Willy, 21, had no means of defense, “while one was crushing his diaphragm, two were beating him.” MMA, the martial art practiced by the Bianchi brothers, would have been used “without considering the consequences of the blows.” “What happened to Willy could have happened to anyone else who faced the pack,” they explained. With the aggravating circumstance of the futile reasons: “he was killed for no reason, because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Mayor Sanna commented on social media: «The sentence will not give us back Willy and will not cancel what happened but we know that the law serves to regulate the evils, even the worst, that can afflict society. Colleferro does not want gallows, he wants justice. He wants it so that what has happened will never happen again and so that young people, especially young people, learn from this terrible tragedy how much value human life has ”.

To remember Willy, to whom Vanity Fair dedicated a cover making an entire issue against hatred, the Lazio Region presented various initiatives to combat violence but also various funds for the environmental redevelopment project and enhancement of the urban decor of the Angelo Vassallo garden adjacent to the place of the killing in Colleferro.
