WIND Hellas establishes Hellenic Open Fiber for the development of fiber optic infrastructures

WIND announced the establishment of Hellenic Open Fiber, a company that will aim to accelerate the development of new generation networks, with special emphasis on fiber optic networks to home (Fiber to the Home) or business (Fiber to the Office). Hellas.

The total investment of Hellenic Open Fiber, as mentioned in a relevant announcement of Wind, is going to exceed 150 million euros (by 2026), while the multiplier impact on the economy is estimated at around 500 million euros, strengthening the Greek economy with 600 new jobs (direct and indirect) and actively supporting the local economies of the country.

At the same time, the creation of Hellenic Open Fiber aims to contribute decisively to the acceleration of the digital agenda of the state and to the bridging of the digital gap with Western Europe, being in full alignment with the axes of the “Greece 2.0” plan. Through its operation, the new company will create the necessary conditions for high-speed Internet, which will be available in many areas of Greece, actively contributing to the digital transformation of local government. The aim of the new company is to make fiber optic technology available to more than 600,000 homes over the next 5 years, significantly upgrading the country’s already existing broadband infrastructure.

The new company will operate as a wholesale, open-access company and without discrimination to any other service provider. At the same time, it will acquire all the active fiber optic equipment of WIND and will undertake all the existing wholesale services, without any changes in the current offers, specifications and wholesale service procedures.

“Hellenic Open Fiber, through its investments, aims to eliminate the quality problems that often occur in the existing copper networks, while the use of underground cables will significantly improve the aesthetics and safety in areas and neighborhoods that have fiber optic networks.
