Microsoft has never been particularly shy about embedding ads in both its proprietary applications and operating system components. This happened this time too: in the “Explorer” in the latest insider build of Windows 11, an advertisement for its own services appeared. Among the ads, users noticed a mention of the Microsoft Editor browser-based spell checker and the PowerPoint presentation editor. This was reported by gHacks.
The ad bar appears right below the address bar and looks less intrusive than the old Windows 10 File Explorer ads (screenshot below). In addition, there are two good news: first, the update is only being tested, so it may eventually be abandoned (but unlikely); secondly, such ads can be disabled (at least for now).

At the moment, there are two ways to disable such ads:
- File Explorer menu ➝ View ➝ Folder Options ➝ Show sync provider notifications;
- Windows settings ➝ System ➝ Notifications ➝ Get tips and suggestions while using Windows.
