Ten days after the Windows 11 distribution was leaked to the Web, Microsoft officially unveiled the new operating system. At first, Windows 10 2H21 was expected instead, but the company felt that the volume of innovations and changes, especially those affecting the user interface, was so great that it was time to announce a new serial version of Windows. True, today only the announcement took place, and the custom version is promised only for the season of the autumn-winter holidays. That is, around the end of November.
After studying the distribution of Windows 11 merged into the Network, it became clear that the interface of the new OS is very similar to the interface of Windows 10X, which has been developed over several years – a version of Windows with a simplified user interface for laptops and tablets. As it turned out, this interface materialized in Windows 11.
Perhaps the most important innovation that immediately catches your eye is the Start menu, which has moved closer to the center of the taskbar. Because of this, Windows 11 began to be compared to macOS and its Dock. As Microsoft Director of Product Panos Panay, who introduced Windows 11, said, the overall idea behind the new design was to make Windows 11 users feel “Incredible tranquility”… It turned out or not – the users themselves will decide in November, but even before that, beta versions will clearly appear on the Web, on which it will be possible to try out all the innovations of Windows 11. Including faster loading of the operating system, faster operation of all browsers (and not only branded Edge), and even faster installation of updates.
In addition to the moved closer to the center of the Start menu, rounded windows, buttons and menus, white and dark skins, which widely use translucency and shadows, the new interface received a feature called Snap Layouts: when you hover over the icon in the upper right corner, Minimize / Expand a widget appears that allows you to dock the window in a certain way. Everything is done automatically, you no longer need to drag and drop windows and resize them manually. This is especially useful when using multiple monitors.
Another innovation that’s impossible to miss: the Teams video conferencing app is integrated into Windows. The company recently released a standalone custom version of Teams, which appears to be a part of Windows 11. In other words, Teams in Windows 11 is becoming a FaceTime counterpart.
“Windows Widgets is a new, personalized AI-powered feed that delivers selected content to you.”– said Panos Panay during the presentation. Widgets are really what differentiates Windows 11 from Windows 10, especially after the live tiles disappeared from the latter.
Microsoft says Windows 11 is the best OS for gamers. The latter should appreciate not only the increased speed of the operating system itself, but also the introduction of Auto HDR technology, borrowed from the Xbox. It works in the new OS by default. Another borrowing from the Xbox is the Direct Storage API, due to which games should load faster. Finally, the third innovation is the built-in Xbox Game Pass subscription in the Xbox app.
At the very end of his speech on Windows 11, Panos Panay focused on built-in support for Android applications and demonstrated the work of one of them – TikTok. Integration is done through the Amazon Appstore.
