After Microsoft announced the system requirements for Windows 11, it might seem that at least on the processor side, everything is fine: the OS requires a 64-bit CPU with at least two cores with a clock speed of at least 1 GHz. In theory, most models on the market fit this description, including representatives of the ancient Core 2 Duo line from 2006-2007. But in fact, the requirements of Windows 11 for processors are much stricter.
Microsoft has published a list of Windows 11 compatible CPUs, and it doesn’t include any 7th Gen Intel Core models – only Intel Core 8 and up. And also CPUs of the Atom, Pentium, Celeron, Xeon series, released simultaneously with Intel Core 8 (or more recent models of these lines).
With AMD processors, the situation is no better: models of the A and FX lines are not supported at all. Ryzen 1000 and most Ryzen 2000 series models – quite powerful and sufficient for gaming – are also not supported.
