Just days after Windows 11 was installed on the Raspberry Pi 4 and Lumia 950 XL, groups of different enthusiasts were able to adapt Microsoft’s new OS to run on smartphones based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC – OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Mi 8. True, in Unlike the first two devices, there is no need to talk about full functionality in this case: after all, OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Mi 8 were originally designed to work with Android.

In both cases, the ARM64 version of Windows 11 was used, and in both cases the system booted, but there were some compromises. So, the touch screen and USB port did not work on Xiaomi Mi 8. The SIM card was eventually identified, but without the ability to make calls.

The OnePlus 6T has a graphics processor and USB, partly a touchscreen. But not Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi, or an audio chip. However, the developers were even able to play a number of games: Crysis, Counter-Strike Global Offensive, Mafia, Need For Speed Most Wanted, GTA IV and others. In most cases, the frame rate was 20-40 FPS, but, for example, in Minecraft it was 60 FPS.
Of course, installing Windows 11 on older smartphones is nothing more than a bold experiment. Nevertheless, it proves the versatility of Microsoft’s new OS, and its applicability to completely different devices on different platforms.
