Microsoft has officially unveiled Windows 11 – the next generation of its operating system. After several weeks of all sorts of hints and teasers, the new name was confirmed. As expected, the main innovations in Windows 11 are a simplified interface with a redesigned Start menu, rounded elements, an improved Microsoft Store and improved overall performance.
Windows 11 fundamentally changes the way people use the Start menu. It now sits in the center of the taskbar, along with the updated square Windows launcher. The interface strongly resembles Windows 10X – a canceled project that was originally planned for use on tablets with two screens. Most of the visual solutions of Windows 10X are used in Windows 11.
Main innovations:
- reimagined design – windows with smooth corners, new icons, start menu without tiles and nice animations;
- the taskbar is now in the middle by default;
- a separate menu of widgets with personalized information about the weather, stock quotes and news in the media;
- automatic distribution of active windows on the desktop with 6 new multitasking modes;
- Snap Group function that remembers the location of applications when using multiple monitors;
- An integrated Microsoft Teams collaboration service that combines chat, video calls, and notes;
- Adapted gestures for easy control on touchscreen devices instead of tablet mode;
- new sound effects;
- DirectX 12 Ultimate support;
- The minimum requirements include a 64-bit platform, 4 GB of RAM, and a DirectX 12 capable graphics card.
