Microsoft is very concerned about the sustainability of Windows 11. Previously, the company tested eco-ratings for PCs running Windows 11, and now Microsoft wants to make sure that system updates are installed during hours when most of the electricity in the user’s house or apartment comes from renewable sources. This is implemented in Windows 11 Insider Preview 22567.

Regional data on which sources prevail in the power system at a given point in time, Microsoft will take from open sources like electricMap and WattTime resources. Moreover, it will be possible to use this function only if the PC or laptop is connected directly to the mains (and not when running on battery power).
Naturally, this is not the only possible option for installing updates in Windows 11 Insider Preview 22567, but just an opportunity to use available resources more rationally. Optionally, the user will be able to install updates at any time.
