Windows 11 will soon lose another useful taskbar feature

The Windows 11 operating system is already used by millions of users around the world, and while the new OS has a number of new features, the limitations of the taskbar and other missing features have drawn criticism from users and experts.

Windows 11 will soon lose another useful taskbar feature

Soon users expect another disappointment. Apparently, Microsoft is planning to remove another useful taskbar feature. This is done as part of the efforts of developers to optimize the OS for tablets.

In the test build and later, it is no longer possible to reorder or drag icons on the taskbar, and Microsoft no longer supports dragging icons to the system tray, the pop-up window on the taskbar under the “^” icon, which contains applications running in the background.

At first, users assumed that this was a bug and the company would fix it in the future, but new builds have shown that this is an intentional change in favor of optimization for tablets.

In a statement, Microsoft confirmed that optimizing the OS for tablets requires the removal of the drag-and-drop feature. Presumably because the company wants to reduce the accidental dragging of icons on tablets.

For all Windows 11 Stable users, this change should come with the release of Windows 11 version 22H2.
