Starting today, September 20, the Windows 11 2022 Update is rolling out in over 190 countries. This is the first major update to the reimagined operating system since its public release in Summer 2021. Microsoft has abandoned the previous naming concept – no more unnecessary postscripts and misleading assembly numbers. Since Windows 11 will be updated annually, but once, the titles now just include the year of the update.
With Windows 11 2022 Update, we have once again made significant changes to the update installation process. Microsoft said it has reduced package sizes, accelerated installations, and prioritized deployment schedules with clean energy sources available. To ensure a quality update experience, Windows 11 2022 Update is being released in stages with a more measured approach: Windows Update will notify the user of availability only when algorithm data indicates that the device is ready for installation.
What’s new in Windows 11 2022 Update
- System-wide live captioning. When playing any form of audio content, you can turn on automatic subtitle generation that works in real time.
- Voice interaction. This feature is in preview and allows you to control your computer using only your voice.
- Natural voices of Jenny and Aria. The new voices are part of the accessibility features for Narrator’s built-in screen reader app, which can be used to read text from websites, emails, and documents.
- Improved Anchor Layouts. Windows 11 windows have received more versatile navigation with touch optimization and the ability to quickly create multiple tabs in the Microsoft Edge browser.
- Focus and Do Not Disturb modes. Features can help you minimize distractions and work on your tasks more productively. When you start a new focus session, Windows 11 will enable Do Not Disturb mode – it will silence notifications and disable icons on the taskbar. Focus is also integrated into the Clock app, with Pomodoro-style timers to keep you focused and remind you to take a break.
- Windows Studio Effects. New technologies for video and audio calls offer background blurring, automatic scene framing, and background noise filtering during a conference call. The effects are based on advanced artificial intelligence.
- Extended Android Support. With Windows 11 2022 Update, the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) has gone live internationally. The Amazon Appstore and the launch of over 20,000 Android apps and games are available in 31 countries. The list includes Andorra, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, San Marino, Spain, Switzerland, Great Britain, USA and the Vatican.
