Windows was preparing universal application tabs, but changed their minds. How did they look

In 2017, Microsoft showed a new feature in Windows 10 called Sets – it’s something like tabs, but not for separate screens of one program, but for different applications. As planned, users should be able to group utilities and switch between them in the same way as between tabs in a browser. Sets was even tested in insider builds of the system in 2018, but the option disappeared the following year and never appeared again. Screenshot shared profile channel Windows on Windows.

It is not known why Microsoft abandoned Sets – there were probably two main reasons. First, this option duplicated the navigation bar at the bottom. Secondly, the additional ribbon of tabs could overload the interface in cases where the launched applications had their own tabs (as in the same browsers).
