General Brown, however, did not explicitly advocate a short campaign or say how long he thought the Israeli operation in Gaza should last.
He has previously overseen air campaigns in the Middle East, including during the battle to retake cities in Iraq from Islamic State militants. He stated that the military campaigns may drag on longer than expected.
“Almost every conflict I’ve been involved in during my military career … has lasted longer than most people imagined. So we have to prepare for that,” he said.
