WinLet, what the anti-rape bracelet is and how it works

If it hadn't been for WinLet that a trip to Milan would have become a nightmare for Valentina, a girl from Brescia who, together with a friend, had decided to spend a few hours in the Lombard capital. On the train back home, in fact, the seventeen-year-old and her partner were surrounded by a baby gang who, taking advantage of a not very crowded carriage, attempted to molest them. Fortunately, Valentina was wearing a special bracelet, an anti-rape bracelet: the WinLet.

The device, which looks like a smartwatch, is instead a fundamental ally for those who find themselves in a dangerous situation. The device in fact allowed the young woman to set off an audible alarm (and not only that, as we will explain later), which put the bad guys to flight.

What is WinLet

WinLet is an electronic bracelet with a shape similar to a smartwatch. In reality, however, it is an anti-violence and anti-aggression tool useful for ensuring personal safety. Usually, women purchase it, “but 10% of users are male”, Pier Carlo Montali, co-founder of Security Watch, the Milanese company that produces WinLet, awarded as Start Up of the year for Amazon, tells us over the phone. .

«WinLet is the first technological accessory for your safety, it is created to prevent aggression and violence in all its forms», we read on the website Security Watch. In all respects it is a bracelet that works on battery and is characterized by a design specifically designed for immediate use in case of urgent need. «WinLet was designed to create a perfect device for every occasion. From sport, to evening outings, to everyday life”, continues Montali.

How WinLet was born

«The idea came to me one evening while running in the Sempione Park in Milan», explains Montali, «I was listening to the music immersed in my thoughts and at a certain point I found myself in a completely dark area. I wasn't afraid, but I wondered if a woman could do what I was doing. The answer was “no” and it seemed like an injustice to me. So I thought about how to find a solution.”

How does it work

This anti-rape bracelet is activated by pressing the display three times. An easy operation that takes very little time, but decisive because doing so triggers three functions immediately.

Once activated, Winlet emits a loud sound frequency above 110 decibels which is intended to deter potential attackers and scare them away. At the same time, it sends an alarm message to a series of contacts selected by the user (up to 100 can be entered), warning that an attack attempt is underway and sending the real-time position of the potential victim.

In the third step, however, WinLet forwards a call to Civis Spa operations centera security company active 24 hours a day, which within 30 seconds tries to contact the person from whom the request for intervention came and, in case of no response, contacts the police.

Once you have purchased WinLet, to activate it, simply download the App and sign up for a monthly subscription from those available.
