Winona Ryder and Keanu Rivers call each other husband and wife in text messages

The actors Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves still refer to each other as husband and wife when texting. Their characters were married when they played Jonathan and Mina Harker on the set of “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” in 1992, directed by Francis Coppola.

The revelation came from Ryder during an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast. When asked if she still talks to Reeves, the actress explained that the two exchange text messages regularly.

“On his birthday I say, ‘Happy birthday, my husband.’ And then he says, ‘Hey, my wife, I love you,’” Ryder said.

In a 2018 interview to promote her romantic comedy “Who Will It Be?”, Ryder said she believed she and Reeves had actually gotten married.

“In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest,” she explained. “We filmed the master and he did the whole thing. So I guess we’re married.”

Three years later, Reeves spoke about it during a video he recorded for “Esquire”.

“We did a whole take of a wedding ceremony with real priests,” he said. “Winona says we’re [casados]. Coppola says we are. So I guess we are married… in the eyes of God.”
