The Ministry of Health is considering bringing the vaccination campaign against the H3N2 flu in the country to March, the month in which the Butantan Institute informed the government that it will be able to deliver vaccines against the disease.
The director of Butantan, Dimas Covas, confirmed to CNN this Wednesday (5) that in March will deliver the vaccines to the Ministry of Health.
Butantan is the federal government’s official supplier of vaccines that protect against new flu strains.
The possibility of anticipating the flu vaccination in the country occurs amid the emergence of cases of people who have both the coronavirus and the flu by the Influenza virus. Simultaneous contamination is known as “flurone”.
There is still no consolidated data from the Ministry of Health on the number of cases in the country.
The currently available version of the flu vaccine does not include the Darwin variant, which required an update, based on a recommendation by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Vaccination against flu usually takes place across the country, usually from April. The anticipation has already occurred at other times.
In 2020, the first year of coronaviruses, the flu vaccination campaign was brought forward to the end of March, as a way to fight the disease, which presents symptoms that can be confused with the coronavirus and make correct diagnosis difficult.
The Ministry of Health informed that the immunizing agent is recommended by the WHO for the southern hemisphere in the year 2022 and includes in its composition the H3N2 virus circulating in the country at this time.
