Despite the fact that this week is shorter because of the holiday of the Dead, the Chamber of Deputies foresees the vote in plenary from this Wednesday (3) on the PEC dos Precatórios — fundamental for the federal government to open fiscal space to boost the program Brazil Aid in the amount of R$400.
The government expects the presence of a majority of the 513 deputies — 308 votes are needed in favour. The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), promised to deduct the salaries of congressmen who do not show up, and there is political articulation by the government to release parliamentary amendments, allocating more money to electoral strongholds.
The budget for the amendments would come from the fiscal space opened up by the proposal, which, according to the Ministry of Economy’s estimate, should reach R$90 billion more in the budget.
In order to make the maneuver feasible, a change is made to the measurement of inflation, which influences the calculation of the spending ceiling, and the flexibility of payment of court orders – a point that generates resistance, even from the allied base.
