With almost 70 years of career, retirement is not an option for Claude Lelouch

The veteran French director Claude Lelouch 86, dismissed suggestions that his latest film “Finally,” due to premiere on Monday (2) at the Venice Film Festival, will be his last.

The 86-year-old director works for almost seven decades and won two Oscars for Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film in 1967 for “One Man, One Woman “.

Because of the title of the new film, film experts in his native France had speculated that it could be his swan song, but Lelouch told reporters at a press conference on Monday that he was eager to continue his work.

“I know I make my last films, of course, so I called this one ‘Finally,’ but I’m going to make another one called ‘Finally, It Never Ends.'”, he said.

“As long as the ideas keep coming, I will continue working as a director. I have never had so many ideas as I do now, I can’t wait to start filming next year,” he added.

The director’s latest film is being shown out of competition at the Venice Film Festival, where Lelouch will also receive a special award.

“Life is like a race. … In the final moments of that race, you need to speed up, not slow down,” Lelouch said.
