With Jair Bolsonaro, Hamilton Mourão and Arthur Lira on international trips, the presidency of the Republic will, as of this Wednesday (8) night, pass to the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco – the third in line for succession.
President Jair Bolsonaro travels this Wednesday night to the Summit of the Americas, in Los Angeles, United States, where he has scheduled a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden.
According to electoral legislation, Mourão and Lira are ineligible in the October elections for the positions they intend to run if they assume the presidency of the Republic in the six months before the election.
The vice president of the Republic, Hamilton Mourão – pre-candidate for the senate from Rio Grande do Sul – is on an official visit to Spain until next Saturday (11).
Also this Wednesday, Mourão has arranged a meeting with the Iberoamerican Secretary General, Andrés Allamand, a lunch offered by the board of the Spain-Brazil Council Foundation and a dinner offered by the Ambassador of Brazil in Spain.
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira – who intends to seek re-election as a deputy – travels to the US at night, and also participates in the Summit of the Americas. The information was confirmed on Tuesday (7) night by the press office.
It will be the second time that Pacheco assumes the leadership of the Executive. On May 6 of this year, the president of the Senate held the presidency of the Republic during Jair Bolsonaro’s trip to Georgetown, Guyana, in the north of the country. At the time, Hamilton Mourão was in Uruguay and Arthur Lira, in the United States.
The exact time of the trip to the US has not yet been released by Planalto, however Rodrigo Pacheco’s adviser informed that the transmission of the position by Bolsonaro to the president of the Senate will take place around 10 pm, at the Brasília Air Base.
The president spoke to supporters on Tuesday, as he left Palácio da Alvorada, who was traveling back from the US on Saturday (11) evening. Pacheco’s publicist confirmed to CNN that he will remain in Brazil until Bolsonaro returns.
