With Covid-19, Bryan Adams launches Pirelli Calendar with music stars

when the Pirelli announced that it would resume its annual calendar, which always brings together famous photographers who choose celebrities of all kinds, after a year without publishing it, due to the impact of the pandemic of Covid-19, no one could suspect that the responsible for the clicks of the 2022 version of the publication would be a musician.

Canadian singer and songwriter Bryan Adams, best known for hits like “Cuts Like a Knife”, “Heaven” and “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You”, already has a career as a photographer, entitled to clicks from names as different as Mick Jagger, Naomi Campbell and Queen Elizabeth II,

Now, she assumes authorship of this year’s edition of the renowned calendar, as it once belonged to iconic photographers such as Richard Avedon, Angela Lindvall, Peter Lindberg, Terry Richardson, Mario Sorrent, Karl Lagerfeld and Annie Leibovitz.

“Obviously it’s a tremendous honor”, said the singer-songwriter about his participation in the event held by the brand to launch the calendar, held in Milan, Italy, and that the CNN followed it live during an online event in São Paulo.

Adams, who traveled from the United States to Europe only for the launch ceremony, was unable to attend the site as he stepped onto Italian soil and discovered that he had tested positive for covid-19.

Fortunately without any heavy symptoms, the Canadian participated only remotely, talking to TV presenter Victoria Cabello, who hosted the ceremony, from a studio set up in the hotel room where he was staying.

“When I started talking to Pirelli, I crossed my fingers, I didn’t think I was going to get the job!”, the photographer of the current edition, laughingly recalled.

The theme was decided by Adams and fits in perfectly with the forced respite that so many had to give in after the pandemic began. By calling his calendar “On the Road” (“On the Road”, in the original English title), he brought together twelve musical artists, including singers and singers, to portray what they missed most when they were isolated from the world, in the last year and Midle.

Adams recalled how he came to this topic, listing his work with the tire manufacturer.

“I’ve always been on the road all the time, just like Pirelli has always been on the road all the time,” said the musician, who found the photo shoots a good alternative to compensate for the lack of shows that the music market underwent after March. 2020.

Among the names chosen for the calendar are artists from different musical styles, from Latin Kali Uchis a rapper Saweetie, passing by the pop diva Cher, by the rock icon Iggy Pop, the producer Grimes, the Chinese MC Bohan Phoenix, the british Rita Ora, between others.

Cover of this year’s edition of the calendar, the indie queen St. Vincent, was also present remotely at the event, participating via videoconference from New York. Annie Clark, his real name, said that she loved working with Adams precisely because he is a musician and understands the logic of other musicians.

“There’s an unspoken rule among musicians about what it’s like to be on the road,” said the singer-photographer, who celebrated his first shows two weeks ago. Annie has been back on the road longer ago, touring the US between September and October, which she considered the best shows of her life.

Adams also composed a song for the calendar, with the title that named this edition, and the original plan, before testing positive for Covid-19, would be a concert in which he would play the song for the audience present at the venue. Without Adams, the event contained a musical number with the presence of dancers.

The photos were taken in the middle of the year in two cities, in Palace Theatre and at the hotel Chateau Marmont, in Los Angeles, USA, and at the hotel Scalinatella, in Capri, Italy. Of all those photographed, the one who gave Adams the most work was punk rock pope Iggy Pop.

“You don’t drive someone like Iggy Pop, he has his own way and he knows exactly what he’s doing,” he recalls tenderly. “You just have to be ready to go,” he concluded.
