With emergency contracting of fireworks, the cost of New Year’s Eve in Rio exceeds R$ 15 million

The bill for the New Year’s Eve party in Rio de Janeiro is already closed. The cost will be R$15.142 million, with the city hall paying most of the bill and only R$3 million will come from two sponsors. Now the city is making an emergency contract to handle the service in the amount of R$ 499 thousand. The winner was the company Inside FX, which had already been contracted for the Flamengo and Nossa Senhora da Penha fires. Riotur informed in a note that “tomorrow, 12/29/21, the hiring of the company will be published in the Official Gazette”.

In an interview with CNN, the owner of the contracted company said that he would like to have more time to prepare the fireworks show, but guaranteed that there are no technical risks or problems with the fireworks.

“There may be a risk of one or another authority not releasing the show due to the timely authorizations. The amount of documents needed to obtain authorization from the Civil Police is enormous. There are at least 15 documents. After the Police, you go to the Fire Department, and there is also the Captaincy of Ports, which needs a shipping agency for the procedures between the ferry and fireworks companies”, said Flávio Ribeiro Ferreira, from Inside Fx.
