With improved virtualization in Android 13, you can run Windows 11 on your smartphone

At first glance, there are very few changes in the first build of Android 13, but so far all the work is aimed at improving or improving existing features. In addition to themed icons, new security tools, and other minor visual updates, Android 13 allows users to run other operating systems through built-in virtualization tools.

Developer Danny Lin, aka kdrag0n, ran Windows 11 ARM on a Google Pixel 6 smartphone. The device was running Android 13 DP1, which enabled the experiment.

According to the developer, Windows 11 is indeed usable on a smartphone, although GPU hardware acceleration is not supported. He even posted a video of himself running DOOM on virtual Windows 11.

It’s worth noting that Windows 11 isn’t the only operating system that Danny Lin has launched on the Pixel 6 smartphone. He also showed how various Linux distributions work on this device.

Former editor-in-chief of XDA Developers Mishaal Rahman has confirmed that Android 13 supports the new virtualization environment. He detailed his explanation on the Esper blog. But in short, this innovation is that Google puts a lot of effort into creating a better virtualization environment that should work on various Android devices.

By the way, enthusiasts have previously run Windows 10 ARM and Windows 11 ARM operating systems on mobile devices with Snapdragon 845. However, now it has become much easier to do this.
