Apple is expected to record very strong sales of its smartphones in the second half of this year. Counterpoint Research predicts that in 2021 Apple will account for one-third of the world’s total 5G smartphone shipments.
This will be provided by last year’s iPhone 12 line of smartphones, which became the first phones of the company with support for fifth generation networks, as well as four models of the iPhone 13 line: they should be presented next week and released by the end of this month.
The iPhone launch will spike 5G phone shipments in the fourth quarter of this year, according to Counterpoint Research. This brings iPhone shipments to around 200 million units a year, while total 5G smartphone shipments this year are expected to reach 605 million units. Last year, the iPhone 12 accounted for 24% of the world’s 5G phone shipments.

Last year, the iPhone 12 went on sale with a delay (two models came out in October, two more followed in November). Apple could gain more market share this year thanks to its traditional late September product release date. This will allow the company to occupy 33% of the 5G smartphone market.
According to Jeff Fieldhack, director of research for Counterpoint Research in North America, “Apple may be reaching a significant milestone in terms of its user base in the US, where the share of Android is gradually decreasing.”
In the morning we announced in what colors and with what set of memory the iPhone 13 smartphones will be available, and also published a video of the layout of the final version of the iPhone 13 Pro.
