Without disclosing details, Israel says southern Gaza will receive humanitarian aid

The Israeli military said on Wednesday (18) that humanitarian aid would be made available to Palestinians fleeing the Gaza Strip southward, but did not provide immediate details about whether or how that aid would be brought to the enclave.

Israel has been urging civilians to move south for their own protection, as it focuses attacks on northern and central Gaza as part of a counteroffensive against the Hamas which could turn into a land invasion.

In a new evacuation notice posted online, the Israeli military called on residents of the Gaza Strip to leave, saying there was a “humanitarian zone” with aid available in Al-Mawasi.

“Al-Mawasi is where international humanitarian aid will be provided as needed,” the post said.

Asked by Reuters whether aid was being allowed into Gaza – and, if so, where and when – an Israeli military spokesman had no immediate response.

Israel imposed a siege on Gaza following Hamas’ cross-border attack on October 7. Several countries sent aid to the Egypt which also borders Gaza, but it is unclear when these shipments will be able to reach the Palestinian enclave.
