Without inauguration ceremony, Paes de Andrade takes over Petrobras this Tuesday (28)

Caio Mario Paes de Andrade’s first act as president of Petrobras already sets him apart from his three predecessors.

The signature of the term of investiture in the company will not have a reserved auditorium, presence of guests and the traditional photo with the green and yellow badge. Paes de Andrade will start working this Tuesday (28) in the morning and the forecast is for a day full of meetings.

The information was confirmed to the CNN by the chairman of the Petrobras Board of Directors, Márcio Weber. He also said that the decision not to hold an inauguration ceremony was motivated by the fact that Paes de Andrade has, for the time being, a kind of ‘temporary’ mandate.

Only after having his name endorsed at the shareholders’ meeting, which has not yet been convened, can he hold a ceremony.

A face-to-face meeting with Weber himself is on the agenda for Paes de Andrade’s first day in charge of Petrobras. He is also expected to meet with company directors and get to know the office on the 18th floor, where he will be dispatching from now on.

On Wednesday (29), Paes de Andrade has his first ordinary meeting of the Petrobras Board of Directors. Held monthly, meetings usually last all day and deal with strategic decisions and the company’s direction. This first direct dialogue with the directors should set the tone for Paes de Andrade’s management.

Board reform

To interlocutors, Caio Mario Paes de Andrade has indicated that he will change Petrobras directors. Upon taking over the company, he will find eight seasoned executives with experience in the market and within Petrobras itself.

The high level of the state-owned company has a technical profile and most directors previously held the position of manager in their respective areas.

The exception is Salvador Dahan, Director of Governance and Compliance. He was responsible for the opinions that gave Paes de Andrade the ‘yellow light’ for gaps in the curriculum that would be incompatible with the position.

A graduate of giant companies such as Procter & Gamble, Grupo Gerdau and Nissan Motors, Dahan has a two-year term, as stipulated in the Petrobras statute. Dahan’s resignation would need to be brought about by a resignation or a decision by the Board.

To change the framework of the team he will work with, Andrade has a problem: candidates for directors must undergo a scrutiny similar to the one he was submitted to by the Compliance department.

Only those who meet the legal prerequisites receive approval to assume the position. This is one of the many changes that the company underwent after the corruption scandals revealed by Operation Car Wash.
