Without knowing she was pregnant, woman goes to the UPA in pain and ends up giving birth

Without knowing that she was pregnant, Ismalia Mirtes Souza Sena, aged 35, sought medical care at the UPA de Brotas Emergency Care Unit, in Salvador (BA), on Monday afternoon (20) with complaints of pain in the pelvic region and on the hip. What seemed to be a common picture of muscular discomfort turned into a surprise natural birth, when, after medical evaluation, the patient was taken to the red room and gave birth to a healthy girl, weighing 3,160 kg and measuring 44 cm.

The unexpected situation moved the UPA team in the Brotas neighborhood, in the central region of the capital of Bahia.

The team on duty, made up of doctors Roberta Visco, Alexandra Luana Couto and Andressa Leal, as well as nurses Áurea Adrielle, Micheline de Jesus and Ilza Anjos, was surprised by the speed of the birth and the unusual situation, but acted quickly to ensure the well-being -being of mother and baby.

“Unexpectedly, a patient arrived with a suspected pregnancy, she began to have contractions and we began preparations for this birth. It was something unexpected and surprising. Very gratifying to know that a new life would arrive in the unit. Very happy to be able to participate in this moment”, said nurse Áurea Adrielle about the service.

After giving birth, mother and daughter were taken to the Institute of Perinatology of Bahia and are doing well.

In a note to CNN the management of UPA de Brotas reinforced that situations like this highlight the importance of technical preparation and humanization in the care of health teams. “We congratulate all the professionals involved for their excellent work”, celebrated the management of the health unit.
