Without vaccine coverage, the pandemic will never end, assesses infectologist

The end of the Covid-19 pandemic will only be possible if everyone is vaccinated, warns infectologist Roberto Medronho, in an interview with CNN. “We all have to be hopeful about the end of the pandemic, but for that to effectively happen, the entire world must be vaccinated.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a message on the progress of Covid-19. The WHO’s regional director for Europe, Hans Klug, is optimistic for the end of the pandemic on the continent.

The expert explains that the biggest obstacle to slowing down contagions are the variants, as the virus changes randomly.

“A less severe variant may appear and, at some point, a more severe variant may emerge. What we need is to expand vaccination around the world.”

According to Medronho, the end of the pandemic would be possible if the variants caused only less severe symptoms in people. “But we are not in a position to predict,” he says.
