Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Saren Haskell called Abu Mohammad al-Jolani a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” because of the jihadist past of Syria’s new strongman. At a press conference in Jerusalem, Haskell showed several photographs of the leader of the radical Sunni group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from his days as a member of jihadist groups. “It is important not to succumb to the temptation to “wash” jihadist organizations in Syria. We know what their true nature is, even if they change their name, and we understand how dangerous they are for the West,” stressed Israel’s deputy foreign minister. “They are terrorist organizations and (Jolani) is a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” he added.
