Woman arrested for illegal practice of medicine in makeshift clinic in Roraima

Last Tuesday (10), the police arrested a 30-year-old woman suspected of illegally practicing medicine in an improvised clinic in the city of Bonfim, 124 kilometers from Boa Vista.

According to the Civil Police, the suspect worked as an optometrist, prescribing optical prescriptions without the appropriate legal qualification.

According to delegate Juliano Bruno Araújo França, the woman had been in the city for two days and worked in an improvised clinic at an aunt’s house.

At the scene, agents seized several items such as optical prescriptions, a notebook with patient notes, advertising pamphlets and a stand with prescription glasses, sold directly after consultations.

Still according to the delegate, the eye exams were carried out inappropriately, with lenses that varied according to the victims’ reports, being, according to him, “an irregular and risky procedure”.

The investigations found that the victims paid the amount of R$50 to be consulted and purchase prescription glasses.

The woman was arrested and taken to the police station. Patients try to receive a refund of the amounts paid.
