The nail designer Raphaela Leal went viral on the internet when she published a video showing the purchase she made of a set of clothes at the Duguess store, in Itapema, Santa Catarina. After receiving the product, she discovered that the part actually came from the Chinese giant Shein.
She says she paid BRL 469.90 for the purchase, and, when analyzing the clothing label, a QR Code directed her to the Chinese company’s website, with the amount of BRL 215.25.
“I went to look at the tag because I liked the outfit, I thought I’d buy more at this store, and the tag was from Shein. If I wanted to buy clothes from Shein, I would buy them from Shein”, comments Raphaela in the video published on TikTok, which already has more than 1.8 million views.
Raphaela said she was able to return the part with the right to a refund, but ended up making the purchase through the Chinese store’s website.
Amid the repercussions, Duda Cadori and Sabrina Souza, founders of Duguess, posted a note of clarification on the store’s official Instagram, regretting what happened and commenting that they were the real victims of the scam.
“Those who know us know our nature and how long we have been in the market. It was the first time this had happened and we were taken by surprise, because all of our purchases are made in Brás, in São Paulo, and this has never been a problem for us. We recently started buying at Bom Retiro as well, but we have no way of checking the label of each of the pieces, as we buy in a closed package”, comment the entrepreneurs.
Duda and Sabrina also portrayed themselves directly with Raphaela, despite disagreeing with the young woman’s conduct of posting the video on social networks.
“If we wanted to act in bad faith, we would cut the label. We believe it was a misunderstanding, but we were the ones who fell for it. She could have spoken to us earlier instead of posting the video, because we’d rather lose a piece than a customer.”
@raphalealribas The day I wanted to buy a better branded outfit at a renowned store here in my city, when I got home I saw the label that belonged to Shein 🤡. NEW FEAR UNLOCKED! Remembering that Shein is retail, not wholesale and it is completely forbidden to sell Shein! #tiktokbrasil #tiktokbr
