A woman was killed after being hit by a beach umbrella that was being blown in the wind in an area of South Carolina, in the United States, last Wednesday (10).
Tammy Perreault, 63, was hit by the beach umbrella while at Beach Access 14, according to an incident report from Horry County Emergency Management.
According to the report, witnesses said that a beach umbrella at the Sea Watch Hotel had been blown from the ground into the air.
The parasol came out “from end to end of the beach until it hit the victim on the left side of the upper torso,” the report says.
Perreault was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Coroner Dale Trevathan of Horry County told CNN over the phone that Perreault’s cause of death was “chest trauma from the parasol shaft.”
He said the victim died en route to the hospital.
Myrtle Beach is located in Horry County.
