A 24-year-old woman died after being electrocuted at home while using a hairdryer and straightener connected to the same power strip. Luana Valéria Ferreira was getting ready for a party in Arapiraca, in Alagoas, on the 10th, when the accident happened.
According to the husband's report to the Military Police, a few minutes after leaving his wife to get ready, he returned and found her on the floor with an extension cord wrapped around her body.
The woman, according to him, had wet hair and the house's electrical circuit breaker key was disarmed, possibly due to the electrical discharge. Neighbors were called to help with the rescue and, after removing the wire with a broomstick, they called the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).
Despite cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, doctors confirmed Luana's death at the scene. According to the Alagoas Public Security Secretariat, the competent bodies were called to analyze and collect the body.
In SP, hospital had fire after dryer broke down
In January, Hospital São Luiz, a reference unit in Morumbi, south of the city of São Paulo, had a fire whose origin was linked to the use of a hairdryer. The equipment used by a nursing assistant, as reported by the Fire Department at the time, overheated and the suspicion was that this problem was linked to the origin of the flames.
In total, 47 patients had to be transferred to other medical centers. A 94-year-old woman suffered a cardiac arrest during the transfer process.
