A month ago, a South African woman gave birth to 10 babies. According to multiple reports, it could have set a new world record. Gosiame Thamara Sithole and her husband were surprised to receive 10 children during the same delivery.
The surprise came because weeks before and throughout the gestation period, the doctors who supervised Thamara’s pregnancy informed her that she would have six children according to various ultrasounds. In addition to these 10 babies, the couple has six-year-old twins.
A family member stated that Thamara gave birth to five babies by natural birth and the other five by cesarean section. Multiple births with more than three babies are usually due to fertility treatment, but in the case of the Sithole family, the pregnancy was conceived naturally.
During an interview, Thamara spoke about how difficult her pregnancy was and the concerns she had during the 29 weeks of gestation, since having a multiple pregnancy, it is best to have a premature delivery.
The pregnancy was difficult at first. Many nights I didn’t know what to do because I couldn’t stop thinking about what might happen. How could they fit in my belly? Would they survive?
Representatives of the Guinness Book of Records They stated that they are checking Thamara’s case and that everything seems to indicate that she managed to break the record set by Halime Cissé, a Malian woman who gave birth to nine babies last May.
