The Civil Police of the State of Ceará (PCCE) arrested, on Monday night (26), a 39-year-old woman suspected of kidnapping a two-month-old baby and claiming to be her son. The newborn had been missing since Saturday (24).
The suspect and the baby were located after uninterrupted investigations with the support of Amber Alert Brazil, a search system for missing children that involves the Ministry of Justice and the company Meta.
According to the Civil Police, the woman committed the crime after informing her partner that she had become pregnant. In order not to be discovered, she informed her family that the newborn was being treated at a health unit.
The baby was kidnapped from a social inn where he was left, by his real mother, in the care of the woman who was there. The disappearance occurred in the Center of the Capital.
This Monday (26), Civil Police agents activated the support of the Amber Brasil Alert from the company Meta and, according to the investigation, some people identified the baby based on the images published on social media.
Amber Alert
When a child disappears or is kidnapped, the Amber Alert is activated and a special communication is sent to Meta's platforms to publish the alert within a radius of up to 160 km from the location of the incident.
Currently, the system works in Ceará, the Federal District and Minas Gerais, but there is an expansion process. Bahia, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, São Paulo, Pernambuco, Paraná, Paraíba, Amapá, Goiás and Roraima will be the next to join.
The Amber Alert program is an urgent alert system established in the United States — and adopted by Brazil — and consists of sending rapid alerts through Meta's social networks, to assist in the search for missing children or adolescents under 18 years of age. or kidnapped, at serious and imminent risk of death or serious bodily harm, under investigation by public security institutions.
The alert announces the description of the child/adolescent, in addition to descriptions of any individual suspected of involvement in the crime.
