The court sentenced a woman to 19 years and three months in prison for the murder of her mother-in-law, which occurred in 2002 in Cuité (PB). The trial took place last Tuesday (8) and lasted around 15 hours.
According to the lawsuit, Ana Beatriz Lima da Costa killed her mother-in-law, Honorina de Oliveira Costa, aged 43, by asphyxiation. The victim’s son – and then Ana Beatriz’s boyfriend –, who was a minor at the time, also participated in the crime.
According to the Public Ministry’s complaint, Honorina’s son hated his mother and planned the murder, inviting Ana Beatriz to help him. Together, they prepared for about a week, acquiring gloves, ropes and a knife to commit the murder.
On the night of the crime, the son picked up Ana Beatriz on a motorcycle and left her near the house. She jumped over the wall of the residence and surprised Honorina in her room, trying to strangle her.
When he was unable to do so, the son intervened and applied a “rear-naked choke” blow to his mother, which resulted in her death.
After the murder, they placed Honorina’s body in the trunk of the car and tried to simulate a disappearance. They then drove to a dam, where they tied stones to the body and threw it into the water to sink it.
The judge dismissed the charges of feminicide and corruption of minors, but convicted Ana Beatriz of the crimes of homicide and concealment of a corpse.
THE CNN tries to contact Ana Beatriz Lima da Costa’s defense. The space remains open.
