Woman sets fire to ex-partner and child for not accepting break-up

A 33-year-old woman was arrested this Tuesday (5), after setting fire to her ex-partner and his son while they were both sleeping, in Cariacica, a municipality located in Greater Vitória (ES).

According to the Military Police, the police were called to respond to an incident at the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) of Marataízes, in the Cidade Nova neighborhood, when a male child with a burned body was admitted to the hospital.

At the scene, the victim’s grandfather – who helped her – told the military team that his son, the child’s father, was also being taken to the UPA with burns on his body, by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).

When questioned, the man told the military that, recently, his son had discovered that the woman he was in a relationship with had the HIV virus and, for that reason, he decided to end the relationship.

However, the woman did not accept the man’s decision and, in the early hours of this Tuesday, she went to her ex-partner’s house, in the Graúna neighborhood and, while he was sleeping with his son, the suspect threw gasoline and set fire to the victims, who suffered serious burns.

She then fled the scene, but was found moments later by police officers with burns on her shin, thighs and feet, in addition to having a knife and a matchbox, which were seized.

The woman’s hands and hair were also affected by the flames and she was taken to the Hospital Evangélico de Itapemirim (ES).

The suspect was charged with double attempted murder and is under hospital escort. She will be sent to prison as soon as she is medically discharged.
