An English woman lived a real nightmare when trying to make a poached egg recipe in the microwave. Shafia Bashir 37, had the skin on her face burned after the egg exploded when it came into contact with a cold spoon.
To cook the egg, Bashir used a viral tip from TikTok – place the egg in a mug of boiling salted water and microwave it for a few minutes.
According to the English portal “Independent”, when Bashir touched the egg with a cold spoon, it “exploded like a fountain”, hitting the right side of her face and leaving her in excruciating pain.

She said she put her face in tap water and had to leave her daughter in the care of a colleague while she went to the emergency room.
She had the burns treated, but was still in pain 12 hours after the accident. To aid healing, she used Vaseline and sudocrem, and “anything she could use”.
Today the wounds have healed, but Bashir warns people to think twice before venturing into the viral recipe:
“I just don’t want anyone else to go through this, because it’s trending on TikTok… It was the most terrible pain of my life (…). I was in absolute agony,” said Bashir, according to the English website.
The dish was not new to Bashir, who already reproduced the recipe taught by his ex-mother-in-law three years ago. But on May 12th, she was shocked to see that the trick ended in disaster, even though she was doing exactly as she used to.
“I boiled the [água na] kettle, filled the mug halfway with water, put salt and the egg inside and microwaved it for a minute. It wasn’t cooked through so I put it on for another minute,” she said.
Cooking hacks like this have become popular on platforms like TikTok as people look for ways to save time on everyday tasks.

But the problem lies in the fact that the shell of the egg retains heat, and keeps it cooking on its own even after removing it from the appliance. Thus, any interruption in the process could cause an explosion.
In 2021, an identical accident occurred with Chantelle Conway, also in England, and left her with burns on her face. Like Bashir, Conway warned people about the danger of the recipe.
