Woman who attacked gay couple is summoned by police to give a statement

The police identified the woman accused of attacking a gay couple in a bakery in the center of São Paulo, in the early hours of Saturday (3). The case is investigated by the Police Station for the Repression of Racial Crimes against Sexual and Gender Diversity and other Intolerance Crimes (Decradi) such as “race or color prejudice” and “bodily injury”.

The woman will be interviewed by the authorities, as well as the military police officers who responded to the incident. In an interview with CNN , one of the victims, Rafael Gonzaga, reports negligence on the part of the agents due to a lack of agility in sending vehicles to the scene and for not making an arrest in the act. “There were four calls to 911 begging them to send a vehicle,” he says.

Rafael and his boyfriend Adrian Grasson report punches and kicks, in addition to homophobic insults. The victims were interviewed and a criminal examination was requested, according to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP).

The police analyze the recordings that went viral on social media and say they are carrying out investigations. The objective is to identify new witnesses and obtain other evidence that helps to elucidate the facts.

Remember the case

On social media, a video went viral that records confusion in a bakery in the center of São Paulo. A woman shouts homophobic insults and attacks a couple of men who arrived at the establishment after a party.

In an interview with CNN , one of the victims, Rafael Gonzaga, says he lived a nightmare. “No one deserves to go through a situation like this. No one deserves to live what we lived. I was happy, just wanting to rest and I came home with a bloody face,” he reports.

Rafael says that the confusion started with an attempt to park the car at the establishment. The men were waiting for passengers to disembark: one man and two women, to enter the space. The victim says that the alleged attacker crossed her arms in the parking space and, at that moment, was removed by the man who accompanied her to the side of the vehicle.

The woman again went back to the front of the car and pushed the rear-view mirror of the victim's vehicle and said: “All you have to do is close the f***ing thing and you can park it”. After being restrained by the man who accompanied her, she started shouting homophobic phrases.

The alleged attacker threw a traffic cone at the couple and the violent behavior extended into the bakery. “She came at us with a series of insults, of a profanity and a homophobic nature”, says Rafael.

The victims report kicks and slaps by the alleged attacker, who was not identified by the police.

“I’m really homophobic, I’m from a traditional family”

In the police report, the victims report that the woman said: “I'm really homophobic, I'm from a traditional family, I had an education, I'm not the same”, when she attacked the victim Adrian's face with her fingernail, and punched Adrian in the face. Rafael.

Outside the bakery, the perpetrator of the attacks said: “I have a gun in the car and I will resolve this situation…”. The police were called by the men, but did not make any arrests.

According to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the police team registered an incident notification, with the versions of those involved, for forwarding to the police station and advised victims on the deadline for criminal representation, in accordance with Law 13,964/19.

In a statement, the Iracema bakery informed that it deeply regrets what happened at the establishment and vehemently repudiates any form of discrimination and disrespect. “We inform you that we are available to the police authorities for any information or statements and that any type of intolerance will not be accepted on our premises.”

A CNN tries to contact the person accused of assault and, until then, will get back to her.
