A 24-year-old woman was arrested in Itabela, in the south of Bahia, on Thursday (12), after chaining her 5-year-old son to a bed.
According to the Military Police, the case was discovered when the child managed to escape from home and was seen on the city streets with a chain tied to his ankle.
Upon locating the child, the PM began searches to find the mother, who was found at home and taken to the Itabela Territorial Police Station.
According to the Civil Police, a Detailed Occurrence Report (TCO) was registered to investigate the complaint of mistreatment.
After giving a statement, the woman was released. The Guardianship Council was also contacted and, together with the PM of the 7th CIPM, began investigating the facts.
The mother claimed that the extreme measure was adopted due to the behavior of her son, who used to run away from home. The case remains under investigation, and the child was sent to a shelter, after undergoing a forensic examination.
The Guardianship Council informed that it must continue to monitor the family’s situation, as, in addition to the 5-year-old boy, the woman has three other children: a baby and two children aged 7 and 9.
