Young Camilla Maria Barbosa dos Santos, 27, was indicted for embezzlement after shaving her head and pretending to have cancer to apply scams and get donations. The crime took place in the city of Morrinhos, in the southern region of Goiás.
Camilla claimed to have breast cancer, with metastasis in the lung and intestine. Using the justification that she needed help to finance her treatment, the woman held raffles and asked for donations to raise money.
According to the Civil Police, several victims attended the police station and reported having helped the investigated financially, so that she could buy medicine and undergo tests, but they began to suspect the veracity of the disease some time later.
In her statement, Camilla claims to have had seven chemotherapy sessions at Hospital Araújo Jorge in July 2022, but claims that, around October, the hospital lost her medical record and ended her treatment.
The Civil Police carried out a search and seizure warrant at the woman’s house and found several documents and exams, but none of them found that Camilla had cancer.
According to the delegate, Camilla herself claims not to have any examination or medical report that confirms the diagnosis she reported.
Hospital denies Camilla was a patient
Hospital Araújo Jorge forwarded a document to the police station, in which it states that Camilla Barbosa is not and has never been a patient at the place.
In addition, those responsible for the hospital said that the woman was caught taking pictures on a stretcher in the chemotherapy sector with an identification card with the names of other people.
Due to the several times that Camilla had irregular attitudes at the hospital, they began to remove her from the institution.
