Women and equal opportunities, the best country is Norway

There is no surprise in the general classification. There Norway, governed for 17 of the last 50 years by women, ranks first in the international index that evaluates gender equality and studies the situation of women and equal opportunities according to a study done by the digital bank N26. Finland and Iceland also on the podium. The North always wins.

Italy ranks 35th in the world, thanks to good levels of female representation in private companies and in politics, even if women never went to Palazzo Chigi and the Quirinale.

The research analyzed 100 nations looking at gender equality in business, institutions and society. To establish the level of parity of genere, N26 calculated the number of years a country has been ruled by a woman since 1970 and the number of women in government or parliamentary roles. For the economic part, women with managerial positions and data on female entrepreneurs were taken into consideration.

For Italy there is an improvement in terms of gender equality and job opportunities. Roma it is the city with the best positioning in the index of Italian cities, with a high percentage of women in leading positions in companies and entrepreneurship. In second and third place are Milan and Florence.

Milan, Genoa and Naples are the cities that, from 1970 to 2020, were governed for the greatest number of years by a mayor, 5. There are 4 for Rome, none for Naples which, however, has the highest share of women holding positions within the municipal administration, 50%.

The Sweden has the largest number of women in senior management positions. The US has the largest number of women in entrepreneurship and Japan is the country with the best score for women’s access to education. At the bottom of the general classification are Jordan, Egypt and Pakistan, which has a total result that is exactly half of that of Norway.
