Women are arrested for simulating lottery robbery in central Rio

Last Wednesday (18), the Civil Police arrested two women, aged 37 and 40, suspected of staging a robbery at a lottery store in the center of Rio de Janeiro. The case occurred on December 10th.

The crime would have occurred after an armed man captured an employee who arrived at the lottery. Inside the store, he captured another employee and stole R$152,000 from the safe and cashiers.

However, when starting investigations, the police analyzed images from monitoring cameras near the lottery and were able to trace the criminal’s escape route.

The recordings showed that a woman accompanied him moments before the “assault”. She would have helped open a gate in the gallery that leads to two streets, entering the same building almost at the same time as he did. To avoid arousing suspicion, both changed clothes before carrying out the crime.

The police discovered that one of the employees was the criminal’s sister-in-law. The investigation concluded that she had been “surrendered” at the entrance of the lottery by her brother-in-law, while her companion helped him escape and return to hiding.

Investigations also revealed that the criminal had disembarked in Rio de Janeiro five days before the crime and remained staying at the home of his two accomplices. After the robbery, he and his partner fled to São Paulo.

The Civil Police continues to investigate the case to identify and locate the “robber”. A total of R$5,000 in cash was seized from the prisoners.
