Women are arrested with almost half a million reais at Rio bus station

The Federal Police (PF) arrested, on Monday night (04), two women who were carrying around R$449,000.00 inside two backpacks. The incident was carried out at Rodoviária Novo Rio, in the central region of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the PF, the large amount of cash was found in plastic bags and the women were unable to inform the source of the money. Investigations also show that the amount would be taken to São Paulo.

The incident occurred during a routine inspection of passengers’ luggage carried out by federal police officers from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DRE). The approach aims to suppress interstate trafficking in narcotics and illicit drugs.

The two women detained in the act and the money seized were sent to the PF Superintendency, in Praça Mauá, for the drawing up of the arrest report for the crime of money laundering, the penalty for which can reach 10 years in prison.
